Canvass to stop Phillips 66 Oil Trains - April 18 & 19

One of the key front lines in the fight to protect California from oil trains is our effort to stop the Phillips 66 oil train terminal in San Luis Obispo County. The Phillips 66 Santa Maria Refinery Railspur Project, if approved, would allow millions of gallons of some of the world’s most toxic crude oil to travel through dozens of California cities, from Chico, Sacramento, and the Bay Area through San Jose, SLO, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles, putting millions of Californians at risk of elevated toxic air pollution, carbon emissions, derailments, spills, fires, and explosions.

Forest Ethics and Center for Biological Diversity are organizing a Canvassing Drive in San Luis Obispo County. We hope you can join them!

So many of you in the California Oil Trains Network have stepped up big time to fight this dangerous project. Already, over 15 cities and counties have passed resolutions demanding SLO County reject the project - many thanks to all of your activism! We’ve built political capital, now we need people power.

And that’s where you come in.

We’ll be supporting folks to find housing, carpools, and will provide training, materials, breakfast, and lunch on both April 18th and 19th. We’re hoping to use this key weekend to ‘blitz’ SLO county with volunteers, to make sure residents are engaged when the time comes in the coming weeks and months for the SLO planning commission to hold public hearings on the project. Here are some more details:
