More than 76,000 people in the U.S. have taken the “Pledge of Resistance” to engage in civil disobedience should President Obama move towards approval of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline (KXL).

Civil disobedience, or nonviolent resistance, is the next necessary step to stop the pipeline should all other legal efforts fail, and we hope that the credible threat of civil disobedience will be a strong-enough deterrent to the Administration.

KXL pipeline is a critical fight to win against the fossil fuel industry to reverse the tide of climate destruction. Thus, we may need to fulfill our responsibility to future generations by risking arrest to stop the pipeline.

Anyone who may participate in upcoming civil disobedience actions in San Jose should attend this training. And even if you’re not ready to get arrested, you can come and learn how to legally support those who will.

The training will primarily focus on getting to know other local activists who signed the pledge, learning about how to safely participate in or support civil disobedience, organizing the necessary roles for the action, and simulating a civil disobedience action.

It will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 405 S. 10th St., San Jose. This is next door to San Jose State University, and there is parking available in the church parking lot
