The Santa Clara Valley Water District is holding a Workshop in San Jose on Monday, December 9th on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan (a/k/a the Bay Delta Tunnels) and the Public is invited to make comments following the formal presentations (approximately at noon).

The Water District Workshop starts at 9 am
The Rally outside to Oppose the Bay Delta Tunnels starts 11 am and ends at 1 pm.

Santa Clara Valley ratepayers are at risk of significant rate hikes because of a $50 billion plan to build two massive tunnels that divert water from the Sacramento River instead of allowing the water to flow thru the delta before shipping it south. These tunnels would bring no new water to Santa Clara Valley but will provide big corporations more water for fracking, a dangerous oil and gas extraction method that pollutes by injecting millions of gallons of water into the ground with a mixture of acids and other toxic chemicals.

Diverting the Sacramento River would have a devastating effect on the ecology of the San Francisco Bay Delta estuary and the wild salmon population it supports. In addition, dozens of family farmers in the Delta will lose their water supply and may be forced out of business.

The Santa Clara Valley Water District is holding workshops ostensibly to examine the “costs and benefits” of the tunnels plan to Santa Clara Valley, but no amount of green washing can hide what these tunnels are: a corporate water grab for big oil and corporate agriculture.

Help us say "No to the Bay Delta Tunnels, and No to Fracking!"
