Stop Oil Trains in San Jose Rally!

This year, from July 6-12, 2015, citizens will organize more than 100 events across the US and Canada to demand an immediate ban on oil trains. On July 6, 2013 in Lac Megantic, Quebec, an oil train exploded killing 47 people. Two years later, and big oil is pushing harder than ever to move more and more oil trains through North America, while oil trains keep exploding, and carbon emissions keep rising.

Now our very own "Keystone On Rails" has arrived in San José. A proposed Phillips 66 Oil Train offloading facility in San Luis Obispo County would bring over 2.5 million gallons of dangerous and explosive tar sands crude oil per day through San José, Santa Clara, and through Northern and Central California. Mile long oil trains carry oil in outdated, unsafe oil tank cars through densely populated neighborhoods and emergency responders acknowledge they are not equipped to handle a major derailment and fire in our community. We need to stop this proposed oil train expansion to protect our community. We need to keep fossil fuels in the ground and create new infrastructure for clean energy not dirty and dangerous tar sands.

Join us to say NO to oil trains, YES to clean energy!
